Teeyan Mela 2025 – Celebrate Punjabi Womanhood with Dance, Culture & Joy in Australia
The colorful Punjabi festival Teeyan is returning in 2025 with a spectacular celebration in Australia! Organized by Aintree Multicultural Club in collaboration with Bacchus Marsh Grammar School, this Ladies Only event will take place on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the Woodlea Campus. Featuring Giddha, Bhangra, food stalls, open dance floor, and the iconic Miss Teeyan Australia 2025, this mela promises an unforgettable afternoon of tradition, culture, and community connection.

What is Teeyan? A Festival Rooted in Punjabi Heritage
Teeyan (ਤੀਆਂ) is a traditional Punjabi festival that celebrates womanhood and sisterhood during the lush monsoon month of Sawan. Traditionally, it was a time when married daughters returned to their maternal homes for a few weeks to reconnect with family and participate in folk music, dance, and festivities.
Women dress in vibrant Punjabi suits, wear phulkaris, adorn themselves with bangles and bindis, and dance to the beats of Giddha, a high-energy folk dance accompanied by witty boliyan (folk verses).
The tradition of Teeyan Melas—community events solely for women—has carried this legacy forward. Today, they have become a platform for celebrating Punjabi culture, female empowerment, and intergenerational bonding, not just in Punjab but across the global Punjabi diaspora.
