A 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar on Friday, causing massive destruction in various regions, including the country's second-largest city, Mandalay. According to official figures, over 1,700 people have died, and more than 3,400 are injured.
Local residents are engaged in searching for their family members and friends, removing debris with their hands and basic tools. Relief efforts are hindered by the vast amount of rubble, broken bridges, and lack of communication resources.
Due to the earthquake, a stench of decomposing bodies has begun to permeate Mandalay, increasing the risk of epidemics. Many people spent the previous night on the streets, as their homes have either collapsed or are uninhabitable.
Relief materials and rescue teams from various countries, including China, India, Russia, Singapore, and Thailand, are arriving in Myanmar. India has sent relief materials, rescue teams, and medical assistance under 'Operation Brahma.'
