ਬਿਕਰਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਜੀਠੀਆ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਜੀਲੈਂਸ ਨੇ 25 ਜੂਨ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਿਹਾਇਸ਼ ਤੋਂ ਗ੍ਰਿਫ਼ਤਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ। ਉਹ 6 ਜੁਲਾਈ ਤੋਂ ਨਾਭਾ ਦੀ ਨਿਊ ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਿਆਂਇਕ ਹਿਰਾਸਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਨ। ਮੁਹਾਲੀ ਅਦਾਲਤ ਨੇ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਮਾਨਤ ਅਰਜ਼ੀ ਅਤੇ ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ਦੀ ਬੈਰਕ ਬਦਲਣ ਦੀ ਮੰਗ ਨੂੰ ਖਾਰਜ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। ਵਿਜੀਲੈਂਸ ਨੇ ਮਜੀਠੀਆ ਖ਼ਿਲਾਫ਼ 40 ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਪੰਨਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਚਲਾਨ ਅਦਾਲਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ’ਤੇ ਜਲਦ ਸੁਣਵਾਈ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਮਾਨਤ ਦੀ ਅਰਜ਼ੀ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਅਤੇ ਹਰਿਆਣਾ ਹਾਈਕੋਰਟ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਸੁਣਵਾਈ ਅਧੀਨ ਹੈ।
ਵਿਜੀਲੈਂਸ ਦੀ ਜਾਂਚ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ, ਬਿਕਰਮ ਮਜੀਠੀਆ ’ਤੇ ਆਮਦਨ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਜਾਇਦਾਦ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਪਤੀ ਇਕੱਠੀ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਦੋਸ਼ ਹਨ। ਇਹ ਮਾਮਲਾ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਾਫ਼ੀ ਚਰਚਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਮਜੀਠੀਆ ਸ਼੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਦਲ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ ਨੇਤਾਵਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਹਨ। ਅਦਾਲਤੀ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਅਤੇ ਜਾਂਚ ਦੇ ਨਤੀਜਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਸਿਓਂ ਇੰਤਜ਼ਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
The judicial custody of former Akali minister Bikram Singh Majithia, currently lodged in Nabha’s New Jail, has been extended by 14 days by a Mohali court. He faces charges of possessing disproportionate assets, and the next hearing in the case is scheduled for November 1. Majithia appeared via video conferencing before the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Hardeep Singh in Mohali. Government advocates Preetinderpal Singh and Ferry Soft, along with Additional Public Prosecutor Manjit Singh from the Vigilance Bureau, were present, while advocate H.S. Dhanoa represented the defense.
Bikram Singh Majithia was arrested by the Vigilance Bureau on June 25 from his residence in Amritsar. He has been in judicial custody in Nabha’s New Jail since July 6. The Mohali court has previously rejected his bail application and his request to change his jail barrack. The Vigilance Bureau has submitted a 40,000-page chargesheet against Majithia, with hearings expected to begin soon. Additionally, his bail application is under consideration in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
According to the Vigilance Bureau’s investigation, Majithia is accused of amassing assets and wealth beyond his known sources of income. This case has garnered significant attention in Punjab, as Majithia is a prominent leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal. The outcome of the court proceedings and investigation is eagerly awaited by all sides.
