ਆਸਟ੍ਰੇਲੀਆ: ਭਾਰਤੀ ਮੂਲ ਦੇ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਕਤਲ ਕੇਸ 'ਚ 25 ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਕੈਦ
ਆਸਟ੍ਰੇਲੀਆ ਦੀ ਇੱਕ ਅਦਾਲਤ ਨੇ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਮੂਲ ਦੇ ਰਾਜਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ 2018 ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਔਰਤ ਦੇ ਬੇਰਹਿਮੀ ਨਾਲ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਕਤਲ ਲਈ 25 ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਸੁਣਾਈ ਹੈ। ਅਦਾਲਤ ਨੇ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ 'ਮੌਕਾਪ੍ਰਸਤ' ਕਤਲ ਕਰਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਦੋਸ਼ੀ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਬਚਾਅ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਪੀੜਤ ਦਾ ਗਲਾ ਵੱਢ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ। ਸਜ਼ਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਪੀੜਤ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਨੇ ਰਾਹਤ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ, ਜਦਕਿ ਰਾਜਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ ਘੱਟੋ-ਘੱਟ 25 ਸਾਲ ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਪਵੇਗਾ।
ਆਸਟ੍ਰੇਲੀਆ (Australia) ਦੇ ਕੁਈਨਜ਼ਲੈਂਡ ਸੂਬੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਾਪਰੀ ਇੱਕ ਦਰਦਨਾਕ ਘਟਨਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਨਸਾਫ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੈ। ਇੱਥੋਂ ਦੀ ਸੁਪਰੀਮ ਕੋਰਟ ਨੇ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਮੂਲ ਦੇ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਨਰਸ ਰਾਜਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ (Rajwinder Singh) ਨੂੰ ਕਤਲ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ 25 ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਸਖਤ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਸੁਣਾਈ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਫੈਸਲਾ 2018 ਵਿੱਚ ਵਾਪਰੇ ਟੋਯਾਹ ਕੋਰਡਿੰਗਲੀ (Toyah Cordingley) ਦੇ ਕਤਲ ਕਾਂਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਅਦਾਲਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੁਣਵਾਈ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਜੱਜ ਲਿੰਕਨ ਕ੍ਰੌਲੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਰਾਜਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਪੁਰਾਣੀ ਰੰਜਿਸ਼ ਦੇ, ਸਿਰਫ ਮੌਕਾ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਵਾਰਦਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਜਾਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਘਟਨਾ 21 ਅਕਤੂਬਰ 2018 ਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਦੋਂ 24 ਸਾਲਾ ਟੋਯਾਹ ਕੋਰਡਿੰਗਲੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੁੱਤੇ ਨੂੰ ਸੈਰ ਕਰਵਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਵੈਂਗੇਟੀ ਬੀਚ (Wangetti Beach) 'ਤੇ ਗਈ ਸੀ। ਉੱਥੇ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਰਾਜਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਉਸ 'ਤੇ ਹਮਲਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਵਕੀਲਾਂ ਮੁਤਾਬਕ, ਰਾਜਵਿੰਦਰ ਨੇ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਲੜਕੀ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜ਼ਖਮੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਫੜੇ ਜਾਣ ਦੇ ਡਰੋਂ ਉਸਦਾ ਗਲਾ ਵੱਢ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਰੌਲਾ ਨਾ ਪਾ ਸਕੇ।
ਇਸ ਘਟਨਾ ਤੋਂ ਤੁਰੰਤ ਬਾਅਦ ਰਾਜਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਆਪਣੀ ਪਤਨੀ, ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਤਾ-ਪਿਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਸਟ੍ਰੇਲੀਆ ਵਿੱਚ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਭੱਜ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਪੁਲਿਸ (Police) ਨੇ ਉਸਦੀ ਗ੍ਰਿਫਤਾਰੀ ਲਈ 1 ਮਿਲੀਅਨ ਆਸਟ੍ਰੇਲੀਅਨ ਡਾਲਰ ਦਾ ਇਨਾਮ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਸੀ। ਚਾਰ ਸਾਲ ਫਰਾਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ, ਨਵੰਬਰ 2022 ਵਿੱਚ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਨੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਗ੍ਰਿਫਤਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਸਟ੍ਰੇਲੀਆ ਹਵਾਲੇ (Extradited) ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।
ਸਜ਼ਾ ਸੁਣਾਉਂਦੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਜੱਜ ਨੇ ਰਾਜਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ ਫਟਕਾਰ ਲਗਾਉਂਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ, "ਤੁਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਚਮੜੀ ਬਚਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਦੱਸੇ ਭੱਜ ਗਏ ਸੀ।" ਅਦਾਲਤ ਨੇ ਤੈਅ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਰਾਜਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਰੋਲ (Parole) ਮਿਲਣ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਪੂਰੇ 25 ਸਾਲ ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੱਟਣੇ ਪੈਣਗੇ। ਪੀੜਤ ਲੜਕੀ ਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਨੇ ਅਦਾਲਤ ਦੇ ਫੈਸਲੇ 'ਤੇ ਤਸੱਲੀ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਦੋਸ਼ੀ ਨੂੰ ਉਸਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਦੀ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਮਿਲੀ ਹੈ।
Justice has been delivered in a tragic incident that took place in the Queensland state of Australia. The Supreme Court here has sentenced Rajwinder Singh, a former nurse of Indian origin, to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment in a serious murder case. This decision comes in the 2018 murder case of Toyah Cordingley.
During the hearing in court, Justice Lincoln Crowley stated that Rajwinder Singh committed this crime without any prior enmity, simply by seizing the opportunity. The incident dates back to October 21, 2018, when 24-year-old Toyah Cordingley went to Wangetti Beach to walk her dog. Rajwinder Singh, who was present there, attacked her. According to public prosecutors, Rajwinder first severely injured the girl and then, fearing capture, slit her throat so she could not raise an alarm.
Immediately after this incident, Rajwinder Singh fled to India, leaving behind his wife, children, and parents in Australia. The Police had announced a reward of 1 million Australian dollars for his arrest. After being on the run for four years, he was arrested by the Delhi Police in November 2022 and was later extradited to Australia.
While pronouncing the sentence, the judge reprimanded Rajwinder Singh, saying, "You fled without even telling your family just to save your own skin." The court has determined that Rajwinder Singh must serve a full 25 years in prison before being eligible for parole. The victim's father expressed satisfaction with the court's verdict, stating that the culprit has been punished for his deeds.
