ਅਮਰੀਕੀ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰਪਤੀ ਡੋਨਲਡ ਟਰੰਪ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਨਰਿੰਦਰ ਮੋਦੀ ਨੂੰ 75ਵੇਂ ਜਨਮਦਿਨ ’ਤੇ ਫੋਨ ’ਤੇ ਵਧਾਈ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਰੂਸ-ਯੂਕਰੇਨ ਜੰਗ ਖਤਮ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਹਿਯੋਗ ਲਈ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ। ਟੈਰਿਫ ਵਿਵਾਦ ਦੇ ਬਾਵਜੂਦ, ਇਹ ਕਾਲ ਭਾਰਤ-ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਸਬੰਧਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਧਾਰਨ ਦਾ ਅਹਿਮ ਸੰਕੇਤ ਹੈ। ਦੋਵਾਂ ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਨੇ ਨਵੀਂ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਪਾਰਕ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਮੁੜ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਅਮਰੀਕੀ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰਪਤੀ ਡੋਨਲਡ ਟਰੰਪ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਨਰਿੰਦਰ ਮੋਦੀ ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ 75ਵੇਂ ਜਨਮਦਿਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਸ਼ੁਭਕਾਮਨਾਵਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਫੋਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਰੂਸ-ਯੂਕਰੇਨ ਜੰਗ ਨੂੰ ਖਤਮ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਸਹਿਯੋਗ ਲਈ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਹ ਫੋਨ ਕਾਲ 16 ਸਤੰਬਰ 2025 ਨੂੰ ਮੋਦੀ ਦੇ ਜਨਮਦਿਨ ਤੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਦਿਨ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੋਈ। ਭਾਰਤ ਅਤੇ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਟੈਰਿਫ ਮੁੱਦਿਆਂ ’ਤੇ ਤਣਾਅ ਦੇ ਬਾਵਜੂਦ, ਇਸ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਦੋਵਾਂ ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਬੰਧਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਧਾਰਨ ਦੀ ਦਿਸ਼ਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਹਿਮ ਕਦਮ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਟਰੰਪ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੋਸ਼ਲ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਪਲੇਟਫਾਰਮ ਟਰੂਥ ਸੋਸ਼ਲ ’ਤੇ ਲਿਖਿਆ, “ਮੇਰੇ ਦੋਸਤ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਨਰਿੰਦਰ ਮੋਦੀ ਨਾਲ ਅੱਜ ਇੱਕ ਸ਼ਾਨਦਾਰ ਫੋਨ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਹੋਈ। ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਮਦਿਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਸ਼ੁਭਕਾਮਨਾਵਾਂ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ। ਉਹ ਸ਼ਾਨਦਾਰ ਕੰਮ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਨਰਿੰਦਰ: ਰੂਸ-ਯੂਕਰੇਨ ਜੰਗ ਖਤਮ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਹਿਯੋਗ ਲਈ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ!” ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਪੋਸਟ ਨੂੰ ‘ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰਪਤੀ ਡੀਜੇਟੀ’ ਦੇ ਹਸਤਾਖਰ ਨਾਲ ਸਮਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ, ਜੋ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਨਿੱਜੀ ਸੁਰ ਨੂੰ ਦਰਸਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਇਹ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਦੋਵਾਂ ਨੇਤਾਵਾਂ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਜੂਨ 2025 ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਸੰਪਰਕ ਸੀ, ਜਦੋਂ ਭਾਰਤ ’ਤੇ ਰੂਸੀ ਤੇਲ ਦੀ ਖਰੀਦ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਨੇ 50 ਫੀਸਦੀ ਟੈਰਿਫ ਲਗਾਏ ਸਨ। ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਦੋਵਾਂ ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਬੰਧਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਤਣਾਅ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ। ਹਾਲਾਂਕਿ, ਹਾਲ ਹੀ ਦੇ ਹਫਤਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਟਰੰਪ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਲਹਿਜਾ ਨਰਮ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਭਾਰਤ-ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਸਬੰਧਾਂ ਨੂੰ “ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼” ਦੱਸਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਮੋਦੀ ਨੂੰ “ਦੋਸਤ” ਕਿਹਾ। ਮੋਦੀ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਜਵਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਨੂੰ “ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਸਾਂਝੀਦਾਰ” ਕਹਿ ਕੇ ਸਬੰਧਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਵਚਨਬੱਧਤਾ ਜਤਾਈ।

Trump posted on Truth Social, “Just had a wonderful phone call with my friend, Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I wished him a very Happy Birthday! He is doing a tremendous job. Narendra: Thank you for your support on ending the War between Russia and Ukraine!” He signed off with ‘President DJT,’ emphasizing the personal tone.
In response, Modi posted on X, “Thank you, my friend, President Trump, for your phone call and warm greetings on my 75th birthday. Like you, I am also fully committed to taking the India-US Comprehensive and Global Partnership to new heights. We support your initiatives towards a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict.”
This was the first interaction between the two leaders since June 2025, when US-imposed 50% tariffs on India over Russian oil purchases strained bilateral ties. Recently, Trump softened his stance, calling India-US relations “special” and referring to Modi as a “friend.” Modi reciprocated, describing the US as a “natural partner” and expressing commitment to strengthening ties.
Alongside the call, India and the US resumed trade negotiations in New Delhi on September 16, which had stalled last month due to tariff disputes. The talks were described as positive and forward-looking, raising hopes for enhanced cooperation.
