ਪੀਯੂ ਸੈਨੇਟ ਮੁੱਦਾ: ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਕਾਰੀ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਵੀਸੀ ਨਾਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਮੁਲਾਕਾਤ
ਪੰਜਾਬ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਕਾਰੀ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਸੈਨੇਟ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਡਿਊਲ ਦੀ ਮੰਗ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਵੀਸੀ ਰੇਨੂੰ ਵਿਗ ਨਾਲ ਮੁਲਾਕਾਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਕਿ ਮਨਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਜਲਦੀ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ। ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਆਗੂ ਅਸ਼ਮੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਚੋਣ ਐਲਾਨ ਨਾ ਹੋਣ ਤੱਕ ਵਿਰੋਧ ਜਾਰੀ ਰਹੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਐਫਆਈਆਰਜ਼ ਰੱਦ ਕਰਨ, ਰਾਖਵਾਂਕਰਨ ਲਾਗੂ ਕਰਨ ਵਰਗੀਆਂ ਮੰਗਾਂ ਵੀ ਰੱਖੀਆਂ। ਕਈ ਸਿਆਸੀ ਪਾਰਟੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਜਥੇਬੰਦੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਰਥਨ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਪੰਜਾਬ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਨੁਮਾਇੰਦੇ, ਜੋ ਸੈਨੇਟ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਐਲਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਰੋਸ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਨੇ ਬੁੱਧਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਉਪ-ਕੁਲਪਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਮੁਲਾਕਾਤ ਕੀਤੀ। ਮੀਟਿੰਗ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਆਗੂ ਅਸ਼ਮੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਪ-ਕੁਲਪਤੀ ਰੇਨੂੰ ਵਿਗ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਕਾਰੀ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਨੁਮਾਇੰਦਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੀਟਿੰਗ ਬੁਲਾਈ ਸੀ।
ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਵੀਸੀ ਨੇ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਕਿ ਸੈਨੇਟ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਡਿਊਲ, ਜੋ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਉਪ-ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰਪਤੀ (ਜੋ ਚਾਂਸਲਰ ਹਨ) ਦੀ ਮਨਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਲਈ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਨੂੰ ਜਲਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਨਗੀ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ। ਪੰਜਾਬ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਕੈਂਪਸ ਸਟੂਡੈਂਟਸ ਕੌਂਸਲ (PUCSC) ਦੇ ਉਪ-ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਸੈਨੇਟ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਡਿਊਲ ਦੀ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਗ ਦਾ ਐਲਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਵਿਰੋਧ ਜਾਰੀ ਰਹੇਗਾ।
ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਜੇ ਉਹ ਇੱਕ ਜਾਂ ਦੋ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਚੋਣ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸੂਚਿਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤਾਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਵਿਰੋਧ ਖਤਮ ਕਰ ਦੇਵਾਂਗੇ। ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਸਕਾਰਾਤਮਕ ਜਵਾਬ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੰਦੇ, ਤਾਂ ਵੱਡੇ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਲਈ ਸੱਦਾ ਦੇਵਾਂਗੇ।”
ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਕਾਰੀ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਪੀਯੂ ਦੇ ਉਪ-ਕੁਲਪਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਮੰਗ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਿ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਸੈਨੇਟ ਦਾ ਪੁਨਰਗਠਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ, ਵੀਸੀ ਕੋਈ ਫੈਸਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੈਣਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਲਏ ਫੈਸਲਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਸਮੀਖਿਆ ਪੁਨਰਗਠਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਪੀਯੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਵਉੱਚ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕੀ ਸੰਸਥਾ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਦਰਜ ਐਫਆਈਆਰਜ਼ ਰੱਦ ਕਰਨ, ਅਸਾਮੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਭਰਤੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਾਖਵਾਂਕਰਨ ਨੀਤੀ ਲਾਗੂ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰਾਂ ਲਈ ਬੁਲਾਰਿਆਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਬਣਾਈ ‘ਵੀਟਿੰਗ ਕਮੇਟੀ’ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਮੰਗ ਵੀ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਪੰਜਾਬ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਬਚਾਓ ਮੋਰਚਾ ਦੇ ਬੈਨਰ ਹੇਠ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਪੀਯੂ ਦੇ ਉਪ-ਕੁਲਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਦਫ਼ਤਰ ਨੇੜੇ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕੀ ਸੰਸਥਾਵਾਂ ਸੈਨੇਟ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੰਡੀਕੇਟ ਦੀ ਪੁਨਰਗਠਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਦੇ ਫੈਸਲੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ। ਨਤੀਜੇ ਵਜੋਂ ਸਿਆਸੀ ਆਗੂਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਦਬਾਅ ਕਾਰਨ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਮੰਤਰਾਲੇ ਨੇ 7 ਨਵੰਬਰ ਨੂੰ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਸੈਨੇਟ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੰਡੀਕੇਟ ਦੀ ਬਣਤਰ ਬਦਲਣ ਵਾਲਾ 28 ਅਕਤੂਬਰ ਦਾ ਨੋਟੀਫਿਕੇਸ਼ਨ ਵਾਪਸ ਲੈ ਲਿਆ ਸੀ।
ਇਸ ਦੇ ਬਾਵਜੂਦ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਅੰਦੋਲਨ ਖਤਮ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਇਨਕਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਸੈਨੇਟ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਡਿਊਲ ਜਾਰੀ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਸਰਕਾਰ ’ਤੇ ਦਬਾਅ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਸੋਮਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ “ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਬੰਦ” ਦਾ ਸੱਦਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਜੋ ਇੱਕ ਸਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਸਮੇਂ ਤੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ। ਸੋਮਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਪੀਯੂ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਸੈਨੇਟ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੰਗ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਵੱਡਾ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ। ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਈ ਸਿਆਸੀ ਪਾਰਟੀਆਂ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਆਮ ਆਦਮੀ ਪਾਰਟੀ, ਸ਼੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਦਲ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਜਥੇਬੰਦੀਆਂ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸੰਯੁਕਤ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਮੋਰਚਾ, ਐਸਕੇਐਮ (ਗੈਰ-ਸਿਆਸੀ), ਕਿਸਾਨ ਮਜ਼ਦੂਰ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ ਮੋਰਚਾ ਨੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦੋਲਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਰਥਨ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
Representatives of Punjab University students, who are protesting for the announcement of senate elections, met the Vice-Chancellor of the university on Wednesday. After the meeting, student leader Ashmeet Singh told reporters that VC Renu Vig had called the meeting with the protesting students' representatives.
Singh said that the VC assured that the senate elections schedule, which has been sent for approval to the country's Vice-President (who is the Chancellor), will soon receive approval. The Vice-President of Punjab University Campus Students Council (PUCSC), Singh, said that their protest will continue until the announcement of the senate elections schedule, their main demand.
Singh said, “If they notify the election program within one or two days, we will end our protest. If they do not give any positive response, we will call for a larger protest.”
The protesting students also demanded from the PU Vice-Chancellor that until the senate is reconstituted, the VC will not take any decisions, and the review of decisions taken earlier by them will be done by PU's highest administrative body after reconstitution. They also demanded cancellation of FIRs registered during previous protests. They emphasized implementing the reservation policy in recruitment for vacancies in PU.
They also demanded the abolition of a 'vetting committee' created for speakers invited for seminars on the PU campus.
It is worth mentioning that students under the banner of Punjab University Bachao Morcha are protesting near the PU Vice-Chancellor's office. Initially, they started this protest against the Centre's decision to reconstitute the university's administrative bodies senate and syndicate.
As a result, amid increasing pressure from political leaders and protesting students, the Education Ministry on November 7 withdrew its October 28 notification to change the structure and composition of Punjab University Senate and Syndicate.
Despite this, the students refused to end their movement and called for a "university bandh" on Monday to pressure the government to issue the senate elections schedule, which have not been held for over a year.
On Monday, PU students held a large protest on campus over the demand for senate elections. Several political parties in Punjab, including Aam Aadmi Party, Shiromani Akali Dal, and farmers' organizations like Samyukta Kisan Morcha, SKM (non-political), Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Morcha, have also supported the students' movement.
