ਸਾਬਕਾ ਝਾਰਖੰਡ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਸ਼ਿਬੂ ਸੋਰੇਨ ਦਾ ਦੇਹਾਂਤ
ਸਾਬਕਾ ਝਾਰਖੰਡ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਝਾਰਖੰਡ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਮੋਰਚਾ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਥਾਪਕ ਸ਼ਿਬੂ ਸੋਰੇਨ ਦਾ 81 ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਦੇ ਸਰ ਗੰਗਾ ਰਾਮ ਹਸਪਤਾਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੇਹਾਂਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ। ਉਹ ਕਿਡਨੀ ਦੀ ਬਿਮਾਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਟਰੋਕ ਕਾਰਨ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਇੱਕ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਤੋਂ ਵੈਂਟੀਲੇਟਰ ’ਤੇ ਸਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਅਤੇ ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਹੇਮੰਤ ਸੋਰੇਨ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਖਬਰ ਦੀ ਪੁਸ਼ਟੀ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਸਾਬਕਾ ਝਾਰਖੰਡ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਝਾਰਖੰਡ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਮੋਰਚਾ (ਜੇਐਮਐਮ) ਦੇ ਸੰਸਥਾਪਕ ਸ਼ਿਬੂ ਸੋਰੇਨ ਦਾ ਸੋਮਵਾਰ ਸਵੇਰੇ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਦੇ ਸਰ ਗੰਗਾ ਰਾਮ ਹਸਪਤਾਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੇਹਾਂਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ। ਉਹ 81 ਸਾਲ ਦੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਲੰਬੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਮਾਰ ਸਨ। ਸ਼ਿਬੂ ਸੋਰੇਨ ਨੂੰ ਜੂਨ ਦੇ ਆਖਰੀ ਹਫਤੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਡਨੀ ਨਾਲ ਸਬੰਧਤ ਸਮੱਸਿਆ ਕਾਰਨ ਹਸਪਤਾਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਾਖਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਇੱਕ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਤੋਂ ਵੈਂਟੀਲੇਟਰ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ’ਤੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਡੇਢ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਿਮਾਗੀ ਸਟਰੋਕ ਵੀ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ। ਹਸਪਤਾਲ ਦੇ ਬੁਲੇਟਿਨ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ, ਸ਼ਿਬੂ ਸੋਰੇਨ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਮਵਾਰ ਸਵੇਰੇ 8:56 ਵਜੇ ਮ੍ਰਿਤਕ ਐਲਾਨਿਆ ਗਿਆ।
ਸ਼ਿਬੂ ਸੋਰੇਨ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਅਤੇ ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਝਾਰਖੰਡ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਹੇਮੰਤ ਸੋਰੇਨ ਨੇ ਸੋਸ਼ਲ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਪਲੈਟਫਾਰਮ ਐਕਸ ’ਤੇ ਇਸ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਖਬਰ ਦੀ ਪੁਸ਼ਟੀ ਕੀਤੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਲਿਖਿਆ, “ਆਦਰਣੀਯ ਦਿਸ਼ੋਮ ਗੁਰੂਜੀ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਚਲੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ। ਅੱਜ ਮੈਂ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੁੰਨ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ।” ਸ਼ਿਬੂ ਸੋਰੇਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਝਾਰਖੰਡ ਵਿੱਚ ‘ਦਿਸ਼ੋਮ ਗੁਰੂ’ ਵਜੋਂ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ, ਨੇ ਝਾਰਖੰਡ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਮੋਰਚਾ ਦੀ ਸਥਾਪਨਾ 1972 ਵਿੱਚ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਦਿਵਾਸੀ ਅਧਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਝਾਰਖੰਡ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਖਰਾ ਰਾਜ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਮੰਗ ਲਈ ਦਹਾਕਿਆਂ ਤੱਕ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਤੀਜਾ 2000 ਵਿੱਚ ਝਾਰਖੰਡ ਦੇ ਗਠਨ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਆਇਆ।
ਸ਼ਿਬੂ ਸੋਰੇਨ ਨੇ ਝਾਰਖੰਡ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਵਜੋਂ ਤਿੰਨ ਵਾਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਨਿਭਾਈ—2005 ਵਿੱਚ 10 ਦਿਨਾਂ ਲਈ, 2008-2009 ਵਿੱਚ ਚਾਰ ਮਹੀਨਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਸਮੇਂ ਲਈ, ਅਤੇ 2009-2010 ਵਿੱਚ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਦੁਮਕਾ ਲੋਕ ਸਭਾ ਸੀਟ ਤੋਂ ਅੱਠ ਵਾਰ ਸੰਸਦ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਵਜੋਂ ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਜ ਸਭਾ ਦੇ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਵੀ ਰਹੇ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ 2004 ਵਿੱਚ ਯੂਪੀਏ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੇਂਦਰੀ ਕੋਲਾ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਵਜੋਂ ਵੀ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਜਨੀਤਕ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਈ ਵਿਵਾਦ ਵੀ ਸਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ 1994 ਵਿੱਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਸਕੱਤਰ ਸ਼ਸ਼ੀਨਾਥ ਝਾ ਦੇ ਅਗਵਾ ਅਤੇ ਕਤਲ ਦਾ ਮਾਮਲਾ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਸੀ, ਪਰ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਰੀ ਹੋ ਗਏ।
ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਨਰਿੰਦਰ ਮੋਦੀ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਿਬੂ ਸੋਰੇਨ ਦੇ ਦੇਹਾਂਤ ’ਤੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਸ਼ਿਬੂ ਸੋਰੇਨ ਜੀ ਇੱਕ ਜਨਤਕ ਨੇਤਾ ਸਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਲਈ ਅਣਥੱਕ ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਤੀ। ਉਹ ਖਾਸ ਤੌਰ ’ਤੇ ਆਦਿਵਾਸੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਗਰੀਬ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਸ਼ਕਤੀਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਸਮਰਪਿਤ ਸਨ।” ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰਪਤੀ ਦ੍ਰੋਪਦੀ ਮੁਰਮੂ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਸੋਰੇਨ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਰਧਾਂਜਲੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਨਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਆਦਿਵਾਸੀ ਪਛਾਣ ਲਈ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਯਾਦ ਰਹੇਗਾ। ਸ਼ਿਬੂ ਸੋਰੇਨ ਦੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਰੂਪੀ ਸੋਰੇਨ, ਪੁੱਤਰ ਹੇਮੰਤ ਸੋਰੇਨ ਅਤੇ ਬਸੰਤ ਸੋਰੇਨ, ਅਤੇ ਧੀ ਅੰਜਲੀ ਸੋਰੇਨ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਦੁਰਗਾ ਸੋਰੇਨ 2009 ਵਿੱਚ ਚਲ ਵਸਿਆ ਸੀ।
Former Jharkhand Chief Minister and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) founder Shibu Soren passed away on Monday morning at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi. He was 81 years old and had been battling a prolonged illness. Shibu Soren was admitted to the hospital in the last week of June due to a kidney-related issue. He had been on ventilator support for the past month and had also suffered a brain stroke one and a half months earlier. According to the hospital’s bulletin, Shibu Soren was declared dead at 8:56 a.m. on Monday.
His son, the current Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, confirmed this tragic news on the social media platform X. He wrote, “Respected Dishom Guruji has left us all. Today, I have become completely empty.” Shibu Soren, widely known as ‘Dishom Guru’ in Jharkhand, founded the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha in 1972. He fought for decades for tribal rights and the creation of a separate Jharkhand state, which was achieved in 2000 when Jharkhand was formed.
Shibu Soren served as Jharkhand Chief Minister three times—first for 10 days in 2005, then for over four months in 2008-2009, and again in 2009-2010. He represented the Dumka Lok Sabha seat eight times as a Member of Parliament and was also a Rajya Sabha member. Additionally, he served as the Union Coal Minister in 2004 under the UPA government. His political career faced controversies, including a case in 1994 involving the kidnapping and murder of his former secretary Shashinath Jha, but he was later acquitted.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over Shibu Soren’s passing, stating, “Shibu Soren ji was a grassroots leader who served the people tirelessly. He was particularly dedicated to empowering tribal communities and the poor.” President Droupadi Murmu also paid tribute, saying his contributions to social justice and tribal identity will always be remembered. Shibu Soren is survived by his wife, Roopi Soren, sons Hemant Soren and Basant Soren, and daughter Anjali Soren. His elder son, Durga Soren, passed away in 2009.
