ਅਮਰੀਕੀ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰਪਤੀ ਡੋਨਲਡ ਟਰੰਪ ਨੇ ਭਾਰਤ ’ਤੇ 25 ਫੀਸਦੀ ਟੈਕਸ ਲਗਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਸੂਚੀ ਜਾਰੀ ਕੀਤੀ, ਜਦਕਿ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ’ਤੇ ਟੈਕਸ 29 ਤੋਂ ਘਟਾ ਕੇ 19 ਫੀਸਦੀ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਇਹ ਨਵੀਆਂ ਟੈਕਸ ਦਰਾਂ 7 ਅਗਸਤ, 2025 ਤੋਂ ਲਾਗੂ ਹੋਣਗੀਆਂ। ਭਾਰਤ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਹਿੱਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਖੀ ਲਈ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਕਦਮ ਚੁੱਕੇਗਾ।
ਅਮਰੀਕੀ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰਪਤੀ ਡੋਨਲਡ ਟਰੰਪ ਨੇ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਭਰ ਦੇ ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਰਯਾਤ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਾਮਾਨ ’ਤੇ ਨਵੀਆਂ ਟੈਕਸ ਦਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੂਚੀ ਜਾਰੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਸੂਚੀ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਭਾਰਤ ’ਤੇ 25 ਫੀਸਦੀ ਟੈਕਸ ਲਗਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਜਦਕਿ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ’ਤੇ ਟੈਕਸ ਦਰ ਨੂੰ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਦੇ 29 ਫੀਸਦੀ ਤੋਂ ਘਟਾ ਕੇ 19 ਫੀਸਦੀ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਨਵੀਆਂ ਟੈਕਸ ਦਰਾਂ 7 ਅਗਸਤ, 2025 ਤੋਂ ਲਾਗੂ ਹੋਣਗੀਆਂ।
ਟਰੰਪ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਕੁਝ ਦੇਸ਼ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਨਾਲ ਵਪਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਸਮਝੌਤਿਆਂ ’ਤੇ ਸਹਿਮਤ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਵਪਾਰਕ ਰੁਕਾਵਟਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਘਟਾਉਣ ਅਤੇ ਅਮਰੀਕੀ ਹਿੱਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਦਿਸ਼ਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਪਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਜ਼ਿਕਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਕੁਝ ਦੇਸ਼, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਰਤ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੈ, ਨੇ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਅਜਿਹੀਆਂ ਸ਼ਰਤਾਂ ਰੱਖੀਆਂ ਜੋ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਦੇ ਵਪਾਰਕ ਅਸੰਤੁਲਨ ਨੂੰ ਹੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ। ਇਸ ਕਾਰਨ ਭਾਰਤ ’ਤੇ 25 ਫੀਸਦੀ ਦੀ ਉੱਚੀ ਟੈਕਸ ਦਰ ਲਗਾਈ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
ਇਸ ਸੂਚੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਰ ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ’ਤੇ ਵੀ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਟੈਕਸ ਦਰਾਂ ਲਗਾਈਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ ਹਨ। ਮਿਸਾਲ ਵਜੋਂ, ਜਪਾਨ ’ਤੇ 15 ਫੀਸਦੀ, ਬ੍ਰਿਟੇਨ ’ਤੇ 10 ਫੀਸਦੀ, ਸ੍ਰੀਲੰਕਾ ’ਤੇ 20 ਫੀਸਦੀ ਅਤੇ ਲਾਓਸ ਤੇ ਮਿਆਂਮਾਰ ’ਤੇ 40 ਫੀਸਦੀ ਟੈਕਸ ਲਗਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲੀ ਰਾਹਤ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਨਾਲ ਹਾਲ ਹੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਏ ਵਪਾਰਕ ਸਮਝੌਤੇ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਭਾਰਤ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਐਲਾਨ ’ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਕਿਰਿਆ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਅਸਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਅਧਿਐਨ ਕਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਹਿੱਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਖੀ ਲਈ ਸਾਰੇ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਕਦਮ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਜਾਣਗੇ। ਭਾਰਤ ਅਤੇ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਦਰਮਿਆਨ ਵਪਾਰਕ ਸਮਝੌਤੇ ਲਈ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਜਾਰੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਟਰੰਪ ਨੇ ਸਪੱਸ਼ਟ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੀਆਂ ਉੱਚੀਆਂ ਟੈਕਸ ਦਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਵਪਾਰਕ ਰੁਕਾਵਟਾਂ ਕਾਰਨ ਸਖ਼ਤ ਰੁਖ਼ ਅਪਣਾਉਣਗੇ।
ਟਰੰਪ ਦੀ ਇਸ ਨੀਤੀ ਦਾ ਮਕਸਦ ਅਮਰੀਕੀ ਵਪਾਰਕ ਘਾਟੇ ਨੂੰ ਘਟਾਉਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਅਮਰੀਕੀ ਉਦਯੋਗ ਨੂੰ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਮਾਹਿਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੰਨਣਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਅਮਰੀਕੀ ਖਪਤਕਾਰਾਂ ’ਤੇ ਮਹਿੰਗਾਈ ਦਾ ਦਬਾਅ ਵਧ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਰਗੇ ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਿਰਯਾਤਕਾਰਾਂ, ਖਾਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਟੈਕਸਟਾਈਲ, ਗਹਿਣੇ ਅਤੇ ਇਲੈਕਟ੍ਰੋਨਿਕਸ ਸੈਕਟਰ ’ਤੇ ਅਸਰ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
United States President Donald Trump has released a list of new tax rates on goods exported to the U.S. from countries worldwide. According to the list, a 25 percent tax has been imposed on India, while Pakistan’s tax rate has been reduced from 29 percent to 19 percent. These new tax rates will take effect from August 7, 2025.
In an executive order, Trump stated that some countries have agreed to trade and security commitments with the United States, which aim to reduce trade barriers and strengthen American interests. However, he noted that certain countries, including India, have proposed conditions during negotiations that do not adequately address the trade imbalance with the U.S. This has led to the imposition of a higher 25 percent tax on India.
The list also includes varying tax rates for other countries, such as 15 percent on Japan, 10 percent on Britain, 20 percent on Sri Lanka, and 40 percent on Laos and Myanmar. The relief granted to Pakistan is attributed to its recent trade agreements and security discussions with the U.S.
India, in response to the announcement, said that the government is studying the implications and will take all necessary steps to safeguard national interests. Trade negotiations between India and the U.S. are ongoing, but Trump has made it clear that he will adopt a tough stance due to India’s high tax rates and trade barriers.
The objective of Trump’s policy is to reduce the U.S. trade deficit and strengthen American industry. However, experts believe this could increase inflationary pressure on American consumers and impact exporters from countries like India, particularly in sectors such as textiles, jewelry, and electronics.
