ਸਰਹਿੰਦ ਨਹਿਰ ’ਚ ਸ਼ਰਧਾਲੂਆਂ ਦਾ ਟੈਂਪੂ ਡਿੱਗਿਆ, 8 ਦੀ ਮੌਤ
ਸਰਹਿੰਦ ਨਹਿਰ ’ਚ ਜਗੇੜਾ ਪੁਲ ਨੇੜੇ ਸ਼ਰਧਾਲੂਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਿਆ ਟੈਂਪੂ ਡਿੱਗਣ ਨਾਲ 8 ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਅਤੇ 2 ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਲਾਪਤਾ ਹਨ। ਟੈਂਪੂ ’ਚ 29 ਸ਼ਰਧਾਲੂ ਸਵਾਰ ਸਨ, ਜੋ ਨੈਣਾ ਦੇਵੀ ਮੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਪਸ ਆ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ।
ਜਗੇੜਾ ਪੁਲ ਨੇੜੇ ਸਰਹਿੰਦ ਨਹਿਰ ’ਚ ਇੱਕ ਟੈਂਪੂ (ਪੀਬੀ 5ਏ ਐੱਨ5072) ਡਿੱਗਣ ਕਾਰਨ ਘੱਟੋ-ਘੱਟ 8 ਸ਼ਰਧਾਲੂਆਂ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ। ਇਹ ਸ਼ਰਧਾਲੂ ਨੈਣਾ ਦੇਵੀ ਮੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਪਸ ਆ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ। ਮ੍ਰਿਤਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਛਾਣ ਮਨਜੀਤ ਕੌਰ (58), ਜਰਨੈਲ ਸਿੰਘ (55), ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਕੌਰ (60), ਅਕਾਸ਼ਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ (8), ਕਮਲਜੀਤ ਕੌਰ (25), ਮਹਿੰਦਰ ਕੌਰ (23), ਅਰਸ਼ਦੀਪ ਕੌਰ (4), ਅਤੇ ਸੁਖਮਨ ਕੌਰ (ਡੇਢ ਸਾਲ) ਵਜੋਂ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ। ਦੋ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ, ਕੇਸਰ ਸਿੰਘ (70) ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ (35), ਅਜੇ ਵੀ ਲਾਪਤਾ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਭਾਲ ਜਾਰੀ ਹੈ।
ਟੈਂਪੂ ’ਚ ਕੁੱਲ 29 ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਸਵਾਰ ਸਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ’ਚੋਂ 19 ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾਅ ਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਸਾਰੇ ਪੀੜਤ ਮਾਲੇਰਕੋਟਲਾ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਦੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਮਾਣਕਵਾਲ ਦੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਨ। ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਾਸਨ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ, ਇਹ ਹਾਦਸਾ ਬੀਤੀ ਰਾਤ ਜਗੇੜਾ ਪੁਲ ਨੇੜੇ ਵਾਪਰਿਆ, ਜਦੋਂ ਟੈਂਪੂ ਸਰਹਿੰਦ ਨਹਿਰ ’ਚ ਡਿੱਗ ਗਿਆ। ਟੈਂਪੂ ਹਾਦਸੇ ਨੇ ਸਥਾਨਕ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਪੀੜਤ ਪਰਿਵਾਰਾਂ ’ਚ ਸੋਗ ਦੀ ਲਹਿਰ ਦੌੜਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਲੁਧਿਆਣਾ ਦੇ ਡੀਸੀ ਹਿਮਾਂਸ਼ੂ ਜੈਨ ਅਤੇ ਖੰਨਾ ਦੀ ਐੱਸਐੱਸਪੀ ਡਾ. ਜਯੋਤੀ ਯਾਦਵ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਹੇਠ ਬਚਾਅ ਕਾਰਜ ਤੇਜ਼ੀ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ। ਪਾਇਲ ਦੇ ਡੀਐੱਸਪੀ ਹੇਮੰਤ ਮਲਹੋਤਰਾ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਰਾਨੀ ਹੇਠ ਗੋਤਾਖੋਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਨਹਿਰ ’ਚ ਲਾਪਤਾ ਵਿਅਕਤੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਭਾਲ ਕੀਤੀ। ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਾਸਨ ਨੇ ਦਾਅਵਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ 19 ਵਿਅਕਤੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਅਤ ਬਚਾਅ ਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਸਰਹਿੰਦ ਨਹਿਰ ਹਾਦਸੇ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਬਚਾਅ ਕਾਰਜਾਂ ’ਚ ਸਥਾਨਕ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਸਹਿਯੋਗ ਕੀਤਾ। ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਾਸਨ ਨੇ ਪੀੜਤ ਪਰਿਵਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਸੰਭਵ ਮਦਦ ਦਾ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਰਹਿੰਦ ਨਹਿਰ ਹਾਦਸੇ ਨੇ ਮਾਲੇਰਕੋਟਲਾ ਦੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਮਾਣਕਵਾਲ ’ਚ ਸੋਗ ਦੀ ਲਹਿਰ ਦੌੜਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ। ਮ੍ਰਿਤਕਾਂ ’ਚ ਬੱਚੇ, ਜਵਾਨ, ਅਤੇ ਬਜ਼ੁਰਗ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹਨ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਿਵਾਰਾਂ ’ਤੇ ਡੂੰਘਾ ਅਸਰ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ। ਡੇਢ ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਸੁਖਮਨ ਕੌਰ ਅਤੇ 4 ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਅਰਸ਼ਦੀਪ ਕੌਰ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਨੇ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਝੰਜੋੜਿਆ ਹੈ। ਪੀੜਤ ਪਰਿਵਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਸਥਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਾਸਨ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਮੁਆਵਜ਼ੇ ਅਤੇ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਦੀ ਉਮੀਦ ਹੈ।
A tempo (PB05AN5072) carrying 29 pilgrims from Naina Devi temple fell into the Sirhind Canal near Jagera Bridge, resulting in 8 deaths. The victims were identified as Manjit Kaur (58), Jarnail Singh (55), Krishna Kaur (60), Akashdeep Singh (8), Kamaljit Kaur (25), Mahinder Kaur (23), Arshdeep Kaur (4), and Sukhman Kaur (1.5 years). Two individuals, Kesar Singh (70) and Gurpreet Singh (35), remain missing, with search efforts ongoing.
All victims were residents of Mankwal village in Malerkotla district. Of the 29 passengers, 19 were rescued. The Sirhind canal accident occurred at night, plunging the community into mourning and raising concerns about canal safety.
Rescue operations were promptly launched under the supervision of Ludhiana DC Himanshu Jain and Khanna SSP Dr. Jayoti Yadav. Divers, led by Payal DSP Hemant Malhotra, searched the canal for the missing individuals. The administration claims 19 passengers were safely rescued. Local residents also assisted in the rescue operations, and the administration has assured support for the affected families.
The Sirhind canal accident occurred in an area prone to road accidents due to poor road conditions and limited visibility at night. Jagera Bridge, near the canal, lacks adequate canal safety measures, increasing the risk of such incidents. The tempo accident has highlighted the broader issue of Punjab road safety, as the state reports a high rate of road accidents. The pilgrims were returning from the revered Naina Devi temple, a popular destination for devotees from Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.
