ਰਾਮ ਰਹੀਮ ਬਰੀ: ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰ ਰਾਮ ਚੰਦਰ ਛੱਤਰਪਤੀ ਕਤਲ ਕੇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਡੇਰਾ ਮੁਖੀ ਨੂੰ ਹਾਈ ਕੋਰਟ ਤੋਂ ਮਿਲੀ ਵੱਡੀ ਰਾਹਤ
ਪੰਜਾਬ ਅਤੇ ਹਰਿਆਣਾ ਹਾਈ ਕੋਰਟ ਨੇ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰ ਰਾਮ ਚੰਦਰ ਛੱਤਰਪਤੀ ਕਤਲ ਕੇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਡੇਰਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਸੌਦਾ ਮੁਖੀ ਗੁਰਮੀਤ ਰਾਮ ਰਹੀਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ ਬਰੀ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। ਅਦਾਲਤ ਨੇ ਹੇਠਲੀ ਅਦਾਲਤ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਸੁਣਾਈ ਗਈ ਉਮਰ ਕੈਦ ਦੀ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਰੱਦ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਇਹ ਅਹਿਮ ਫੈਸਲਾ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ
ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰ ਰਾਮ ਚੰਦਰ ਛੱਤਰਪਤੀ ਕਤਲ ਕੇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਅਤੇ ਹਰਿਆਣਾ ਹਾਈ ਕੋਰਟ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਵੱਡਾ ਫੈਸਲਾ ਸੁਣਾਉਂਦਿਆਂ ਡੇਰਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਸੌਦਾ ਮੁਖੀ ਗੁਰਮੀਤ ਰਾਮ ਰਹੀਮ ਨੂੰ ਬਰੀ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਫੈਸਲਾ ਮੁੱਖ ਜੱਜ ਸ਼ੀਲ ਨਾਗੂ ਅਤੇ ਜਸਟਿਸ ਵਿਕਰਮ ਅਗਰਵਾਲ ਦੇ ਡਿਵੀਜ਼ਨ ਬੈਂਚ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ। ਜ਼ਿਕਰਯੋਗ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਾਲ 2019 ਵਿੱਚ ਪੰਚਕੂਲਾ ਦੀ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਸੀ.ਬੀ.ਆਈ. ਅਦਾਲਤ ਨੇ ਰਾਮ ਰਹੀਮ ਅਤੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਹੋਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੋਸ਼ੀ ਕਰਾਰ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਉਮਰ ਕੈਦ ਦੀ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਸੁਣਾਈ ਸੀ।
ਸਾਲ 2002 ਵਿੱਚ ਸਿਰਸਾ ਦੇ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰ ਰਾਮ ਚੰਦਰ ਛੱਤਰਪਤੀ ਦੀ ਗੋਲੀ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਹੱਤਿਆ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ ਸੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਨਸਾਫ਼ ਲਈ ਲੰਬੀ ਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਲੜਾਈ ਲੜੀ ਸੀ। ਹਾਈ ਕੋਰਟ ਦੇ ਤਾਜ਼ਾ ਫੈਸਲੇ ਨੇ 2019 ਦੇ ਹੇਠਲੀ ਅਦਾਲਤ ਦੇ ਫੈਸਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਪਲਟ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। ਹਾਲਾਂਕਿ, ਅਦਾਲਤ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਾਕੀ ਦੋਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਬਰਕਰਾਰ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ। ਡੇਰਾ ਮੁਖੀ ਦੇ ਵਕੀਲ ਜਤਿੰਦਰ ਖੁਰਾਣਾ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਫੈਸਲੇ ਦੀ ਪੁਸ਼ਟੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਇਸ ਫੈਸਲੇ ਦੇ ਬਾਵਜੂਦ ਗੁਰਮੀਤ ਰਾਮ ਰਹੀਮ ਦੀ ਰਿਹਾਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਹੋਰ ਮਾਮਲਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਕੱਟ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ 2017 ਵਿੱਚ ਦੋ ਸਾਧਵੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਜਿਨਸੀ ਸ਼ੋਸ਼ਣ ਦੇ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ 20 ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਕੱਟ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਰੋਹਤਕ ਦੀ ਸੁਨਾਰੀਆ ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੰਦ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਮਈ 2024 ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਹਾਈ ਕੋਰਟ ਨੇ ਡੇਰਾ ਮੈਨੇਜਰ ਰਣਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਕਤਲ ਕੇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਾਮ ਰਹੀਮ ਨੂੰ ਬਰੀ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ। ਛੱਤਰਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਫੈਸਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਵੱਡਾ ਝਟਕਾ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਹਾਈ ਕੋਰਟ ਦੇ ਇਸ ਫੈਸਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਪਰੀਮ ਕੋਰਟ ਵਿੱਚ ਚੁਣੌਤੀ ਦੇਣਗੇ।
In a significant legal development, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has acquitted Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in the 2002 murder case of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati. The verdict was delivered by a division bench comprising Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Vikram Aggarwal. Notably, in 2019, a special CBI court in Panchkula had found Ram Rahim and three others guilty in this case, sentencing them to life imprisonment.
Journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati, who operated from Sirsa, was shot in October 2002 and succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter. His family fought a long and arduous legal battle for justice. The recent High Court verdict has overturned the trial court's 2019 decision regarding the Dera chief. However, the court has upheld the convictions of the other co-accused in the case. The Dera chief's lawyer, Jitender Khurana, confirmed the development.
Despite this acquittal, Gurmeet Ram Rahim will not be released as he is currently serving sentences in other criminal cases. He has been serving a 20-year sentence since 2017 following his conviction in a rape case and is lodged in Rohtak's Sunaria jail. Previously, in May 2024, the High Court had also acquitted Ram Rahim in the murder case of former Dera manager Ranjit Singh. The Chhatrapati family has expressed deep disappointment with the verdict, stating that it is a major setback and that they intend to challenge this High Court decision in the Supreme Court.
