Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Amman, the capital of Jordan, on Monday for his two-day visit, which is aimed at further strengthening bilateral ties with the Arab nation. Jordan’s Prime Minister Jafar Hassan accorded a ceremonial and warm welcome to Modi at the airport, symbolizing the close relationship between the two countries.
This visit holds special importance as it is the first full-fledged bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Jordan after a long gap of 37 years. Furthermore, the trip coincides with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations, which is expected to give new momentum to economic relations.
This is the first stop of Narendra Modi's four-day, three-nation tour (Jordan, Ethiopia, and Oman). During this visit, the Prime Minister will hold a one-on-one talk with King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein and, on Tuesday, address an India-Jordan business event attended by leading businessmen from both countries.
India and Jordan share very strong economic relations. India is Amman's third-largest trading partner, and Jordan is a leading supplier of fertilizers, particularly phosphates and potash, to India. During the visit, Modi will also interact with the Indian diaspora, which comprises over 17,500 people living in Jordan.
