The Indian Navy's frontline warship, INS Tarkash, recently intercepted a suspicious dhow in the Western Indian Ocean, seizing over 2,500 kilograms of narcotics, including 2,386 kilograms of hashish and 121 kilograms of heroin.

On March 31, INS Tarkash received intelligence inputs from the Navy's P8I aircraft regarding the activities of certain vessels suspected of being involved in narcotics smuggling. Acting on this information, the warship altered its course to investigate the suspicious vessels. After systematically interrogating all vessels in the vicinity, INS Tarkash intercepted and boarded a suspect dhow.
Utilizing its integral helicopter, the ship monitored the activities of the suspicious vessel and identified other potential suspect vessels operating in the area. A specialist boarding team, including Marine Commandos, conducted a thorough search of the dhow, uncovering various sealed packets containing narcotics.
Officials reported that a total of 2,507 kilograms of narcotics were found stored in different cargo holds and compartments of the vessel, comprising 2,386 kilograms of hashish and 121 kilograms of heroin. The suspect dhow was subsequently brought under the control of INS Tarkash, and the crew members were comprehensively questioned regarding their modus operandi and the presence of other similar vessels in the area.
