ਭਾਰਤ ਨੇ ਰੂਸ ਤੋਂ ਤੇਲ ਖਰੀਦਣਾ ਬੰਦ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਵਾਅਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ: ਟਰੰਪ
ਅਮਰੀਕੀ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰਪਤੀ ਡੋਨਲਡ ਟਰੰਪ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਨਰਿੰਦਰ ਮੋਦੀ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਅਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਭਾਰਤ ਰੂਸ ਤੋਂ ਤੇਲ ਖਰੀਦਣਾ ਬੰਦ ਕਰ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ। ਟਰੰਪ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਸਕੋ ’ਤੇ ਦਬਾਅ ਵਧਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਕਦਮ ਦੱਸਿਆ। ਭਾਰਤ, ਜੋ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਦਾ ਤੀਜਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਤੇਲ ਦਰਾਮਦਕਾਰ ਹੈ, ਨੇ ਹਾਲ ਹੀ ਦੇ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੂਸ ਤੋਂ ਤੇਲ ਦਰਾਮਦ ਵਧਾਈ ਸੀ।
ਅਮਰੀਕੀ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰਪਤੀ ਡੋਨਲਡ ਟਰੰਪ ਨੇ ਬੁੱਧਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਨਰਿੰਦਰ ਮੋਦੀ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਭਾਰਤ ਰੂਸ ਤੋਂ ਤੇਲ ਖਰੀਦਣਾ ਬੰਦ ਕਰ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ। ਟਰੰਪ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਸਕੋ ’ਤੇ ਅੰਤਰਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਦਬਾਅ ਵਧਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਦਿਸ਼ਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਡਾ ਕਦਮ ਦੱਸਿਆ। ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਓਵਲ ਦਫ਼ਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਐੱਫਬੀਆਈ ਡਾਇਰੈਕਟਰ ਕਾਸ਼ ਪਟੇਲ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝੀ ਪ੍ਰੈਸ ਕਾਨਫਰੰਸ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਕਹੀ, ਜਿੱਥੇ ਉਹ ਹਿੰਸਕ ਅਪਰਾਧਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕਣ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ।
ਜਦੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਖ਼ਬਰ ਏਜੰਸੀ ਨੇ ਟਰੰਪ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ ਕਿ ਕੀ ਉਹ ਭਾਰਤ ਨੂੰ ਭਰੋਸੇਯੋਗ ਸਾਥੀ ਮੰਨਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਜਵਾਬ ਦਿੱਤਾ, "ਹਾਂ, ਬਿਲਕੁਲ। ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਮੋਦੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਦੋਸਤ ਹਨ। ਸਾਡੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਚੰਗੇ ਸਬੰਧ ਹਨ। ਮੈਂ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਤੋਂ ਨਾਖੁਸ਼ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਭਾਰਤ ਰੂਸ ਤੋਂ ਤੇਲ ਖਰੀਦ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ। ਪਰ ਅੱਜ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਵਾਅਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਹੁਣ ਰੂਸ ਤੋਂ ਤੇਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਰੀਦਿਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ। ਇਹ ਇੱਕ ਵੱਡੀ ਪਹਿਲਕਦਮੀ ਹੈ। ਹੁਣ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਚੀਨ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਮਨਾਉਣਾ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।"
ਟਰੰਪ ਨੇ ਮੋਦੀ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਜ਼ਦੀਕੀ ਸਬੰਧਾਂ ਦਾ ਜ਼ਿਕਰ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ, "ਮੋਦੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਦੋਸਤ ਹਨ। ਸਾਡੇ ਸਬੰਧ ਬਹੁਤ ਵਧੀਆ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਦੋ ਦਿਨ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਵੀ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਕਹੀ ਸੀ।" ਸੈਂਟਰ ਫਾਰ ਰਿਸਰਚ ਆਨ ਐਨਰਜੀ ਐਂਡ ਕਲੀਨ ਏਅਰ (CREA) ਦੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ, ਭਾਰਤ ਚੀਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਰੂਸੀ ਜੈਵਿਕ ਬਾਲਣ ਦਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਖਰੀਦਦਾਰ ਹੈ।
ਟਰੰਪ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਮੋਦੀ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਲਾਘਾ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ "ਮਹਾਨ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ" ਦੱਸਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਹਾ, "ਉਹ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਪਸੰਦ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਮੈਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਕਿ ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗਲਤ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਜਾਵੇ। ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਆਸੀ ਕਰੀਅਰ ਨੂੰ ਨੁਕਸਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਹੁੰਚਾਉਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ।" ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੀ ਤਰੱਕੀ ਅਤੇ ਮੋਦੀ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਲਾਘਾ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ, "ਮੈਂ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਭਾਰਤ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਖ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ। ਇਹ ਇੱਕ ਸ਼ਾਨਦਾਰ ਦੇਸ਼ ਹੈ। ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹਰ ਸਾਲ ਨਵੇਂ ਆਗੂ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਸਨ, ਕਈ ਤਾਂ ਕੁਝ ਮਹੀਨਿਆਂ ਲਈ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ। ਪਰ ਮੇਰਾ ਦੋਸਤ ਮੋਦੀ ਲੰਬੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਤੋਂ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਵਾਅਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਹੁਣ ਰੂਸ ਤੋਂ ਤੇਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਰੀਦਿਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।"
ਭਾਰਤ, ਜੋ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਦਾ ਤੀਜਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਤੇਲ ਦਰਾਮਦਕਾਰ ਦੇਸ਼ ਹੈ, ਆਮ ਤੌਰ ’ਤੇ ਮੱਧ ਪੂਰਬ ਤੋਂ ਤੇਲ ਖਰੀਦਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਫਰਵਰੀ 2022 ਵਿੱਚ ਯੂਕਰੇਨ ’ਤੇ ਹਮਲੇ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ, ਭਾਰਤ ਨੇ ਰੂਸ ਤੋਂ ਤੇਲ ਦੀ ਦਰਾਮਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਾਫ਼ੀ ਵਾਧਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ।
US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured him that India will stop buying oil from Russia. Trump described this assurance as a significant step toward increasing international pressure on Moscow. He made this statement during a joint press conference with FBI Director Kash Patel at the Oval Office, where they discussed government efforts to curb violent crimes.
When a news agency asked Trump if he considers India a reliable partner, he replied, "Yes, absolutely. Prime Minister Modi is my friend. We have a great relationship. I was unhappy that India was buying oil from Russia. But today, he assured me that they will not buy oil from Russia anymore. This is a major initiative. Now we need to convince China to do the same."
Highlighting his close relationship with Modi, Trump said, "Modi is my good friend. We have an excellent relationship. He mentioned this two days ago as well." According to the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA), India is the second-largest buyer of Russian fossil fuels after China.
Praising Prime Minister Modi, Trump called him a "great man" and said, "He likes me a lot. I don’t want my words to be misunderstood. I don’t want to harm his political career." Commending India’s progress and Modi’s leadership, he added, "I’ve been watching India for years. It’s a wonderful country. Earlier, there used to be a new leader every year, some even stayed for just a few months. But my friend Modi has been leading for a long time, and he has assured me that no more oil will be bought from Russia."
India, the world’s third-largest oil importer, has traditionally relied on the Middle East for its oil needs. However, since the Ukraine invasion in February 2022, India has significantly increased its oil imports from Russia.
