ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਊਧਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ ਸਨਮਾਨ: ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਫਰਜ਼, ਮਜਬੂਰੀ ਨਹੀਂ - ਮਾਨ
ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਮਾਨ ਨੇ ਸੁਨਾਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਊਧਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ 86ਵੇਂ ਸ਼ਹੀਦੀ ਦਿਹਾੜੇ ਮੌਕੇ ਸ਼ਰਧਾਂਜਲੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਨਾਮ-ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਸ਼ਾਹਰਾਹ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਊਧਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਹਾਈਵੇਅ ਰੱਖਿਆ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਹੀਦਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਨਮਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਫਰਜ਼ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਨਾਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਈ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਪ੍ਰਾਜੈਕਟਾਂ ਦੇ ਨੀਂਹ ਪੱਥਰ ਰੱਖੇ। ਅਰਵਿੰਦ ਕੇਜਰੀਵਾਲ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸ਼ਹੀਦਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਅਜੇ ਵੀ ਅਧੂਰੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ ’ਤੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਦੇਣ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ।
ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਾਨ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸ਼ਹੀਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਚੀ ਸ਼ਰਧਾਂਜਲੀ ਦੇਣਾ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਫਰਜ਼ ਹੈ, ਨਾ ਕਿ ਕੋਈ ਮਜਬੂਰੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸੁਨਾਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਊਧਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ 86ਵੇਂ ਸ਼ਹੀਦੀ ਦਿਹਾੜੇ ਮੌਕੇ ਰਾਜ ਪੱਧਰੀ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਬੋਧਨ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਕਹੀ। ਇਸ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਸੁਨਾਮ-ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਸ਼ਾਹਰਾਹ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਬਦਲ ਕੇ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਊਧਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਹਾਈਵੇਅ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਗਿਆ। ਸਮਾਗਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਮ ਆਦਮੀ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਦੇ ਕੌਮੀ ਕਨਵੀਨਰ ਅਰਵਿੰਦ ਕੇਜਰੀਵਾਲ ਵੀ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਸਨ।
ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਊਧਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਲਈ ਅਣਮੁੱਲੀ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਆਗੂ ਬਿਕਰਮਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਜੀਠੀਆ ’ਤੇ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨਾ ਸਾਧਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਨੇ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਜਲ੍ਹਿਆਂਵਾਲਾ ਬਾਗ ਸਾਕੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਜਨਰਲ ਡਾਇਰ ਦੀ ਮੇਜ਼ਬਾਨੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ। ਅੱਜ ਉਹ ਨਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹਿਤ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਦੋਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਾਭਾ ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੰਦ ਹਨ।
ਸਮਾਗਮ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਕੇਜਰੀਵਾਲ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਊਧਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਮਾਰਕ ’ਤੇ ਫੁੱਲ ਮਾਲਾਵਾਂ ਭੇਟ ਕਰਕੇ ਸ਼ਰਧਾਂਜਲੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸੁਨਾਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਈ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਪ੍ਰਾਜੈਕਟਾਂ ਦੇ ਨੀਂਹ ਪੱਥਰ ਵੀ ਰੱਖੇ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ 15.32 ਕਰੋੜ ਰੁਪਏ ਦੀ ਲਾਗਤ ਨਾਲ ਤਹਿਸੀਲ ਕੰਪਲੈਕਸ ਦਾ ਨਵੀਨੀਕਰਨ, 13.64 ਕਰੋੜ ਨਾਲ ਨਵਾਂ ਬੱਸ ਸਟੈਂਡ, 8.20 ਕਰੋੜ ਨਾਲ ਕੁੜੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਸਕੂਲ, 18.95 ਕਰੋੜ ਨਾਲ ਇਨਡੋਰ ਸਪੋਰਟਸ ਕੰਪਲੈਕਸ ਅਤੇ 20.78 ਕਰੋੜ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਊਧਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਕਾਲਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਾਕੀ ਗਰਾਊਂਡ, ਲੈਕਚਰ ਹਾਲ, ਲਾਇਬਰੇਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕੀ ਬਲਾਕ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ, 8.49 ਕਰੋੜ ਰੁਪਏ ਦੀ ਲਾਗਤ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਨਾਮ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਬੁਨਿਆਦੀ ਢਾਂਚੇ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਜੈਕਟ ਵੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ।
ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਊਧਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ ਵਾਰਸਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਨਮਾਨਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਸਮਾਗਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੈਬਨਿਟ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਅਮਨ ਅਰੋੜਾ, ਹਰਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਚੀਮਾ, ਲਾਲਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਭੁੱਲਰ, ਡਾ. ਰਵਜੋਤ, ਗੁਰਮੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਖੁੱਡੀਆਂ, ਹਰਭਜਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਈਟੀਓ, ਬਰਿੰਦਰ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਗੋਇਲ, ਹਰਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਮੁੰਡੀਆਂ, ‘ਆਪ’ ਆਗੂ ਮਨੀਸ਼ ਸਿਸੋਦੀਆ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਪਤਵੰਤੇ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਸਨ।
ਅਰਵਿੰਦ ਕੇਜਰੀਵਾਲ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਦੇ 75 ਸਾਲ ਬਾਅਦ ਵੀ ਸ਼ਹੀਦਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਅਧੂਰੇ ਹਨ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਪਿਛਲੀਆਂ ਸਰਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਖਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਦੀ ਲੁੱਟ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਵੱਲ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਊਧਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੀ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬਹਾਦਰੀ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਸਮਾਗਮ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਪੁਲੀਸ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਔਰਤ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਬੂ ਕੀਤਾ, ਜੋ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ ਕਰਦੀ ਜਾਪਦੀ ਸੀ। ਪੁਲੀਸ ਨੇ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਦੇ ਸਖ਼ਤ ਇੰਤਜ਼ਾਮ ਕੀਤੇ ਸਨ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਕੋਈ ਅਣਸੁਖਾਵੀਂ ਘਟਨਾ ਨਾ ਵਾਪਰੇ।
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann stated that offering a true tribute to martyrs is the Punjab government's duty, not a compulsion. He made these remarks while addressing a state-level event in Sunam on the occasion of Martyr Udham Singh’s 86th martyrdom day. During the event, the Sunam-Patiala highway was renamed as Shaheed Udham Singh Highway. Aam Aadmi Party’s national convener Arvind Kejriwal was also present at the event.
Mann emphasized that Martyr Udham Singh made an invaluable sacrifice for the country’s freedom. Targeting Akali leader Bikramjit Singh Majithia, he said that such people’s families collaborated with the British during the Jallianwala Bagh massacre by hosting General Dyer. Today, Majithia is in Nabha jail, accused of promoting drugs and ruining the lives of Punjab’s youth.
During the event, Mann and Kejriwal paid tribute by offering floral wreaths at the Shaheed Udham Singh Memorial. They also laid foundation stones for several development projects in Sunam, including a Rs. 15.32 crore tehsil complex renovation, a Rs. 13.64 crore new bus stand, a Rs. 8.20 crore government girls’ school, a Rs. 18.95 crore indoor sports complex, and a Rs. 20.78 crore hockey ground, lecture hall, library, and administrative block at Shaheed Udham Singh Government College. Additionally, Rs. 8.49 crore worth of infrastructure projects for Sunam city were initiated.
Martyr Udham Singh’s descendants were honored during the event. Cabinet ministers Aman Arora, Harpal Singh Cheema, Laljit Singh Bhullar, Dr. Ravjot, Gurmeet Singh Khuddian, Harbhajan Singh ETO, Barinder Kumar Goyal, Hardeep Singh Mundian, AAP leader Manish Sisodia, and other dignitaries were present.
Arvind Kejriwal remarked that even 75 years after independence, the dreams of martyrs remain unfulfilled because previous governments looted public funds and neglected development. He recalled Martyr Udham Singh’s sacrifice, stating that his bravery continues to inspire.
Before the event, police detained a woman who appeared to be protesting, though neither she nor the police provided further details. Strict security arrangements were in place to prevent any untoward incidents.
