New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, during his recent visit to India, expressed support for India's bid for a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). In his address at the Raisina Dialogue, Luxon emphasized the importance of a rules-based order in the Indo-Pacific region, rejecting the notion that "might makes right," a comment made in the context of China's growing influence in the area.
Luxon highlighted that countries like India play a pivotal role on the global stage and that New Zealand fully supports India's inclusion as a permanent member of the UNSC. He discussed various economic and political aspects of the Indo-Pacific region and analyzed the increasing power dynamics within the area. Luxon also stated New Zealand's commitment to enhancing defense collaboration with like-minded countries such as India.
During his visit, Prime Minister Luxon met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House in New Delhi, where they discussed various facets of bilateral relations. Additionally, both leaders paid respects at Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib, wearing yellow headscarves and bowing before the Guru Granth Sahib.
