ਕੈਨੇਡਾ: 16 ਭਾਰਤੀਆਂ ਸਮੇਤ 18 ਮੁਲਜ਼ਮ ਫਿਰੌਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਚੋਰੀ ਦੇ ਮਾਮਲੇ ’ਚ ਗ੍ਰਿਫਤਾਰ
ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਦੀ ਪੀਲ ਰੀਜਨਲ ਪੁਲੀਸ ਨੇ ‘ਪ੍ਰੋਜੈਕਟ ਆਊਟਸੋਰਸ’ ਦੇ ਤਹਿਤ 18 ਮੁਲਜ਼ਮਾਂ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ 16 ਭਾਰਤੀ ਮੂਲ ਦੇ ਹਨ, ਨੂੰ ਫਿਰੌਤੀ, ਲੁੱਟ, ਚੋਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਧੋਖਾਧੜੀ ਦੇ ਮਾਮਲਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਗ੍ਰਿਫਤਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਪੁਲੀਸ ਨੇ 27 ਕਰੋੜ ਰੁਪਏ ਦਾ ਸਮਾਨ, ਬੰਦੂਕਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਨਕਦੀ ਬਰਾਮਦ ਕੀਤੀ। ਇਹ ਮੁਲਜ਼ਮ ਵਾਹਨ ਚੋਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਨਜਾਇਜ਼ ਬੀਮਾ ਕਲੇਮ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਾਰਦਾਤਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਸਨ। ਜਾਂਚ ਜਾਰੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਅਪਰਾਧਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਮੀ ਦੀ ਉਮੀਦ ਹੈ।
ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਦੀ ਪੀਲ ਰੀਜਨਲ ਪੁਲੀਸ ਨੇ ‘ਪ੍ਰੋਜੈਕਟ ਆਊਟਸੋਰਸ’ ਦੇ ਤਹਿਤ ਲੰਮੀ ਜਾਂਚ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਫਿਰੌਤੀ, ਲੁੱਟ, ਚੋਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਧੋਖਾਧੜੀ ਵਰਗੇ ਅਪਰਾਧਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਦੋ ਅਪਰਾਧੀ ਗਰੋਹਾਂ ਦੇ 18 ਮੁਲਜ਼ਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗ੍ਰਿਫਤਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ 16 ਭਾਰਤੀ ਮੂਲ ਦੇ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਔਰਤ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੈ। ਪੁਲੀਸ ਨੇ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਲਗਭਗ 27 ਕਰੋੜ ਰੁਪਏ (42 ਲੱਖ ਡਾਲਰ) ਦੀ ਕੀਮਤ ਦਾ ਸਮਾਨ ਬਰਾਮਦ ਕੀਤਾ, ਜੋ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਅਪਰਾਧਾਂ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ। ਇਹ ਮੁਲਜ਼ਮ ਪੀਲ ਅਤੇ ਨੇੜਲੇ ਛੇ ਹੋਰ ਖੇਤਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ 97 ਅਪਰਾਧਿਕ ਮਾਮਲਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਸਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਦੋਸ਼ ਪੱਤਰ ਤਿਆਰ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
ਗ੍ਰਿਫਤਾਰ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਮੁਲਜ਼ਮਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਅੱਧੇ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਹੋਰ ਅਪਰਾਧਿਕ ਮਾਮਲਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਜ਼ਮਾਨਤ ’ਤੇ ਸਨ। ਪੁਲੀਸ ਮੁਤਾਬਕ, ਇਹ ਲੋਕ ਸਰਟੀਫਾਈਡ ਰੋਡਸਾਈਡ ਅਤੇ ਹੰਬਲ ਰੋਡਸਾਈਡ ਨਾਮ ਦੀਆਂ ਟੋਅ ਕੰਪਨੀਆਂ ਚਲਾਉਂਦੇ ਸਨ। ਇਹ ਗਰੋਹ ਵਾਹਨ ਚੋਰੀ ਕਰਦੇ, ਰਸਤੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾਣਬੁੱਝ ਕੇ ਐਕਸੀਡੈਂਟ ਦਿਖਾ ਕੇ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਡਾਲਰ ਦੇ ਨਜਾਇਜ਼ ਬੀਮਾ ਕਲੇਮ ਵਸੂਲਦੇ ਸਨ। ਨਾਲ ਹੀ, ਇਹ ਵਪਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਫਿਰੌਤੀ ਲਈ ਧਮਕੀਆਂ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਮੰਨਣ ’ਤੇ ਗੋਲੀਬਾਰੀ ਵਰਗੀਆਂ ਵਾਰਦਾਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਜਾਮ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ। ਪੁਲੀਸ ਨੇ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੋਂ 18 ਟੋਅ ਟਰੱਕ, 4 ਮਹਿੰਗੀਆਂ ਲਗਜ਼ਰੀ ਕਾਰਾਂ, 5 ਹੋਰ ਵਾਹਨ, 6 ਨਜਾਇਜ਼ ਬੰਦੂਕਾਂ, 2 ਬੁਲੇਟਪਰੂਫ ਜੈਕਟਾਂ, ਕਈ ਛੋਟੇ ਹਥਿਆਰ ਅਤੇ 586 ਗੋਲੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ-ਨਾਲ 45 ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਡਾਲਰ ਦੀ ਨਕਦੀ ਵੀ ਬਰਾਮਦ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਗ੍ਰਿਫਤਾਰ ਮੁਲਜ਼ਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਛਾਣ ਇੰਦਰਜੀਤ ਧਾਮੀ (38), ਪ੍ਰੀਤੋਸ਼ ਚੋਪੜਾ (32), ਗੁਰਬਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ (28), ਕੁਲਵਿੰਦਰ ਪੁਰੀ (25), ਪਰਮਿੰਦਰ ਪੁਰੀ (31), ਇੰਦਰਜੀਤ ਬੱਲ (29), ਵਰੁਣ ਔਲ (31), ਕੇਤਨ ਚੋਪੜਾ (30), ਪਵਨਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ (25), ਦਿਪਾਂਸ਼ੂ ਗਰਗ (24), ਰਾਹੁਲ ਵਰਮਾ (27), ਕਰਨ ਬੋਪਾਰਾਏ (26), ਮਨਕੀਰਤ ਬੋਪਾਰਾਏ (22), ਸਿਮਰ ਬੋਪਾਰਾਏ (21), ਜੋਵਨ ਸਿੰਘ (23) ਅਤੇ ਅਭਿਨਵ ਭਾਰਦਵਾਜ (25) ਵਜੋਂ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ। ਸਾਰੇ ਮੁਲਜ਼ਮ ਬਰੈਂਪਟਨ ਦੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ। ਪੁਲੀਸ ਮੁਤਾਬਕ, ਕੁਝ ਮੁਲਜ਼ਮ ਸਮਾਜ ਸੇਵਕ ਵਜੋਂ ਲੰਗਰ ਲਾਉਂਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਸੋਸ਼ਲ ਮੀਡੀਆ ’ਤੇ ਵੀਡੀਓ ਪੋਸਟ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ। ਪੀਲ ਪੁਲੀਸ ਦੇ ਚੀਫ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨ ਦੁਰੈਫਾ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਗ੍ਰਿਫਤਾਰੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਵਾਹਨ ਚੋਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਨਜਾਇਜ਼ ਬੀਮਾ ਕਲੇਮ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਾਰਦਾਤਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਮੀ ਆਵੇਗੀ। ਡਿਪਟੀ ਪੁਲੀਸ ਚੀਫ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਜਾਂਚ ਅਜੇ ਜਾਰੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਗਰੋਹ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੇ ਹੋਰ ਲੋਕਾਂ ’ਤੇ ਵੀ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ।
The Peel Regional Police in Canada, under Project Outsource, arrested 18 suspects, including 16 individuals of Indian origin and one woman, following an extensive investigation into organized crime involving extortion, robbery, theft, and fraud. The police recovered goods worth approximately $4.2 million (₹27 crore), which the groups had amassed through various criminal activities. These suspects were linked to 97 criminal cases across Peel and six other regions, with charge sheets prepared accordingly.
Over half of the arrested suspects were already on bail for other criminal cases. Operating under the guise of tow companies named Certified Roadside and Humble Roadside, the groups engaged in vehicle theft and orchestrated fake accidents to claim millions in fraudulent insurance payouts. They also made extortion calls to business owners, demanding large sums and resorting to gunfire when demands were unmet. The police seized 18 tow trucks, four luxury cars, five other vehicles, six illegal firearms, two bulletproof vests, several small weapons, 586 rounds of ammunition, and $45,000 in cash.
The arrested individuals, all from Brampton, were identified as Inderjit Dhami (38), Pritosh Chopra (32), Gurbinder Singh (28), Kulwinder Puri (25), Parminder Puri (31), Inderjit Ball (29), Varun Aul (31), Ketan Chopra (30), Pawandeep Singh (25), Dipanshu Garg (24), Rahul Verma (27), Karan Boparai (26), Mankeerat Boparai (22), Simar Boparai (21), Jovan Singh (23), and Abhinav Bhardwaj (25). Some suspects posed as community workers, organizing langars and posting videos on social media. Peel Police Chief Nishan Duraiappa expressed confidence that these arrests would reduce vehicle theft and insurance fraud incidents. The Deputy Police Chief stated that the investigation is ongoing, and further action will be taken against others linked to these organized crime groups.
