U.S. President Donald Trump has suggested to Ukraine that it may have to cede some of its territories to Russia to end the ongoing war that has lasted over three years and restore peace. Trump made these remarks in an interview with Fox News. He stated that Ukraine might need to give up land for peace. During the interview, when asked if Russian President Vladimir Putin would agree to end the war "without taking a significant portion from Ukraine," Trump replied: "No, they (Russia) are going to take something. They fought the war and they have a lot of property. They have won some land." Trump further said, "We (America) are the only country that goes in, wins the war, and then leaves." The interview was recorded on Thursday and aired on Sunday on Fox News' 'Sunday Morning Futures.' Trump made these statements after a conversation with Putin, in which Putin proposed a territorial swap where Ukraine would cede Donetsk and Luhansk regions in exchange for Russia withdrawing from small parts of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson. This marks a departure from Trump's earlier statements, where he encouraged Ukraine to reclaim all its lost territories.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian drones have attacked a major gas processing plant in southern Russia, causing a fire and forcing it to halt gas intake from Kazakhstan. The Orenburg plant, operated by state-owned gas company Gazprom and located near the Kazakh border, is part of a production and processing complex that is one of the world's largest facilities of its kind, with an annual capacity of 45 billion cubic meters. The plant processes gas from Orenburg's own oil and gas fields as well as from Kazakhstan's Karachaganak field. According to regional Governor Yevgeny Solntsev, the drone strikes ignited a fire in a workshop at the plant and damaged part of it. The fire was later extinguished. Ukraine has confirmed the attack, stating that a large fire broke out at the plant and a gas processing unit was damaged. This strike is part of Ukraine's escalated attacks on Russian energy facilities since August to disrupt fuel supplies and deprive Moscow of revenue. Russia claims it shot down 45 Ukrainian drones overnight. The attack has led to a 25-30% reduction in production at Kazakhstan's Karachaganak field. This is the first reported strike on the plant, dealing a significant blow to Russia's energy sector.
