ਟਰੰਪ ਦੀ ਭਾਰਤ ਨੂੰ ਧਮਕੀ: 24 ਘੰਟਿਆਂ ’ਚ ਟੈਰਿਫ ਵਧਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਐਲਾਨ
ਅਮਰੀਕੀ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰਪਤੀ ਡੋਨਲਡ ਟਰੰਪ ਨੇ ਭਾਰਤ ’ਤੇ 24 ਘੰਟਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਟੈਰਿਫ ਵਧਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਧਮਕੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਭਾਰਤ ਰੂਸ ਤੋਂ ਸਸਤਾ ਤੇਲ ਖਰੀਦ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਭਾਰਤ ਨੇ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਅਤੇ ਯੂਰਪ ’ਤੇ ਦੋਹਰੇ ਮਾਪਦੰਡ ਅਪਣਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਦੋਸ਼ ਲਾਇਆ, ਜਦਕਿ ਰੂਸ ਨੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਵਪਾਰਕ ਅਧਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਮਰਥਨ ਕੀਤਾ। ਟਰੰਪ ਨੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਉੱਚੇ ਟੈਰਿਫਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਵਪਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਮੱਸਿਆ ਦੱਸਿਆ।
ਅਮਰੀਕੀ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰਪਤੀ ਡੋਨਲਡ ਟਰੰਪ ਨੇ ਭਾਰਤ ’ਤੇ ਸਖ਼ਤ ਟਿੱਪਣੀਆਂ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਭਾਰਤ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਦਾ ਚੰਗਾ ਵਪਾਰਕ ਭਾਈਵਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਿਹਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਐਲਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਅਗਲੇ 24 ਘੰਟਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਰਤ ’ਤੇ ਟੈਰਿਫ “ਬਹੁਤ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ” ਵਧਾਉਣਗੇ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਭਾਰਤ ਰੂਸ ਤੋਂ ਸਸਤਾ ਤੇਲ ਖਰੀਦ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਸੀਐੱਨਬੀਸੀ ਦੇ ਸਕੁਆਕ ਬਾਕਸ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ’ਚ ਇੰਟਰਵਿਊ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਟਰੰਪ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਭਾਰਤ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਟੈਰਿਫ ਲਗਾਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮੁਲਕ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਟੈਰਿਫ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਮੁਲਕ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ ਹਨ, ਜਿਸ ਕਾਰਨ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਭਾਰਤ ਨਾਲ ਘੱਟ ਵਪਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।” ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਜੋੜਿਆ, “ਭਾਰਤ ਸਾਡੇ ਨਾਲ ਵਪਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਅਸੀਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਘੱਟ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਮੈਂ 24 ਘੰਟਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਟੈਰਿਫ ਵਧਾਉਣ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਰੂਸੀ ਤੇਲ ਖਰੀਦ ਕੇ ਜੰਗੀ ਮਸ਼ੀਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਰਥਨ ਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।”
ਟਰੰਪ ਨੇ ਦੋਸ਼ ਲਾਇਆ ਕਿ ਭਾਰਤ ਰੂਸ ਤੋਂ ਸਸਤਾ ਕੱਚਾ ਤੇਲ ਖਰੀਦ ਕੇ ਮੁਨਾਫੇ ਲਈ ਮਹਿੰਗਾ ਵੇਚ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ 25% ਟੈਰਿਫ ’ਤੇ ਸਮਝੌਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ, ਪਰ ਹੁਣ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਵਧਾਉਣਗੇ। ਜਦੋਂ ਭਾਰਤ ਨਾਲ ਵਪਾਰਕ ਸਮਝੌਤੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ ਗਿਆ, ਤਾਂ ਟਰੰਪ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਉੱਚੇ ਟੈਰਿਫ ਸਮੱਸਿਆ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਜ਼ੀਰੋ ਟੈਰਿਫ ਦੇਣ, ਪਰ ਰੂਸੀ ਤੇਲ ਦੀ ਖਰੀਦ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਦਿਆਂ ਇਹ ਕਾਫੀ ਨਹੀਂ।” ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਦਿਨ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਸੋਮਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਟਰੰਪ ਨੇ ਭਾਰਤ ’ਤੇ ਟੈਰਿਫ ਵਧਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਕਹੀ ਸੀ।
ਭਾਰਤ ਨੇ ਟਰੰਪ ਦੇ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬਿਆਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਜਵਾਬ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਅਤੇ ਯੂਰਪੀ ਯੂਨੀਅਨ ’ਤੇ ਦੋਹਰੇ ਮਾਪਦੰਡ ਅਪਣਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਦੋਸ਼ ਲਾਇਆ। ਭਾਰਤ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਅਤੇ ਯੂਰਪ ਵੀ ਰੂਸ ਨਾਲ ਵਪਾਰ ਜਾਰੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਭਾਰਤ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਜਾਇਜ਼ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨਾ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਰੂਸ ਨੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਦਾ ਸਮਰਥਨ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਹਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂਸੱਤਾ ਸੰਪੰਨ ਦੇਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਪਾਰਕ ਭਾਈਵਾਲ ਚੁਣਨ ਦਾ ਅਧਿਕਾਰ ਹੈ। ਕਰੈਮਲਿਨ ਦੇ ਬੁਲਾਰੇ ਦਮਿੱਤਰੀ ਪੈਸਕੋਵ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਦੇਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿੱਤਾਂ ਮੁਤਾਬਕ ਵਪਾਰਕ ਸਬੰਧ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਹੋਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ।” ਰੂਸੀ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ ਮੰਤਰਾਲੇ ਦੀ ਤਰਜਮਾਨ ਮਾਰੀਆ ਜ਼ਕਾਹਰੋਵਾ ਨੇ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ’ਤੇ ਗਲੋਬਲ ਸਾਊਥ ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ’ਤੇ ਨਵ-ਬਸਤੀਵਾਦੀ ਨੀਤੀਆਂ ਥੋਪਣ ਦਾ ਦੋਸ਼ ਲਾਇਆ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਅਮਰੀਕੀ ਪਾਬੰਦੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਧਮਕੀਆਂ ਪੂਰੀ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਿਤ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
US President Donald Trump sharply criticized India, stating it has not been a good trade partner. He announced plans to “substantially” increase tariffs on India within the next 24 hours because India is purchasing cheap oil from Russia. During an interview on CNBC’s Squawk Box, Trump said, “India imposes the highest tariffs of any country, which limits our trade with them. Their tariffs are higher than any other nation’s.” He added, “India does business with us, but we do very little with them. So, I’m going to raise tariffs within 24 hours because they’re buying Russian oil, fueling the war machine.”
Trump accused India of buying cheap crude oil from Russia and selling it at a profit. He noted that a 25% tariff agreement was previously reached, but he plans to increase it further. When asked about a potential trade deal with India, Trump said, “The problem is India’s high tariffs. They should offer zero tariffs, but given their Russian oil purchases, that’s not enough.” A day earlier, on Monday, Trump had also vowed to raise tariffs on India.
India responded by accusing the US and the European Union of double standards, pointing out that both continue trade with Russia while unfairly targeting India. Russia supported India, stating that sovereign nations have the right to choose their trade partners. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said, “Every sovereign country should have the freedom to select trade partners and economic cooperation methods that align with its interests.” Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova accused the US of imposing neo-colonial policies on Global South countries. She stated that American sanctions and threats impact the entire world.
