ਅਮਰੀਕੀ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰਪਤੀ ਡੋਨਾਲਡ ਟਰੰਪ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਇਸ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਸਮਝੌਤੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਉਮੀਦ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਈ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਹੁਣ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਦੇ 'ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਕਿਤੇ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ ਕਰੀਬ' ਹਨ। ਅਮਰੀਕੀ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਯੋਜਨਾ ਦੇ ਲਗਭਗ 90 ਫੀਸਦੀ ਨੁਕਤਿਆਂ 'ਤੇ ਯੂਕਰੇਨ ਅਤੇ ਯੂਰਪੀ ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਹਿਮਤੀ ਬਣ ਚੁੱਕੀ ਹੈ।
ਹਾਲਾਂਕਿ, ਜ਼ੇਲੈਂਸਕੀ ਨੇ ਚੇਤਾਵਨੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕੁਝ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੁੱਦੇ ਅਜੇ ਵੀ ਅਣਸੁਲਝੇ ਹਨ, ਖਾਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਰੂਸੀ ਫ਼ੌਜਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਬਜ਼ੇ ਹੇਠਲੇ ਇਲਾਕਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ। ਜ਼ੇਲੈਂਸਕੀ ਨੇ ਸਾਫ਼ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਡੋਨਬਾਸ (ਲੁਹਾਂਸਕ ਅਤੇ ਡੋਨੇਟਸਕ) ਖੇਤਰ ਦੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਹਿੱਸੇ 'ਤੇ ਮਾਸਕੋ ਦੇ ਕੰਟਰੋਲ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਨਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਣਗੇ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਡੋਨਬਾਸ ਵਿੱਚ 'ਮੁਕਤ ਆਰਥਿਕ ਖੇਤਰ' ਬਣਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਸਤਾਵ ਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਮਤਲਬ ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਇਲਾਕਾ ਰੂਸ ਦੇ ਕੰਟਰੋਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ। ਰੂਸ ਦੇ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰਪਤੀ ਵਲਾਦੀਮੀਰ ਪੁਤਿਨ ਨੇ ਦੁਹਰਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਰੂਸ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਸਮਝੌਤਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾ ਕਿ ਇੱਕ ਅਸਥਾਈ ਜੰਗਬੰਦੀ।
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a very significant statement that a peace agreement to end the nearly four-year-long Russia-Ukraine war could be finalized within a few days, following talks with US officials. He described the proposal as 'very workable'. American envoys are expected to present this draft agreement to Russia, ahead of further potential meetings in the United States next week.
US President Donald Trump also expressed optimism about the peace agreement, stating that he believes they are 'closer now than they have ever been' to a peace settlement. American officials have indicated that a consensus has been reached on about 90 percent of the peace plan points between Ukraine and European nations.
However, Zelenskyy cautioned that some key issues remain unresolved, especially concerning the Ukrainian territory occupied by Russian forces. Zelenskyy made it clear that Kyiv will not recognize Moscow's control over any part of the Donbas (Luhansk and Donetsk) region. He noted that the US is proposing to create a 'free economic zone' in Donbas, but stressed that this does not mean the area will be under Russia's control. Russia's President Vladimir Putin has reiterated that Russia wants a comprehensive peace agreement, not a temporary truce. The core disagreement remains over the fate of the occupied territory and the future security guarantees for Ukraine.
