The escalating conflict and war-like situation in the Middle East have severely disrupted international air services. In a recent development, IndiGo flight 6E 1301, which departed from Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport for Manchester (UK), had to abruptly return to Delhi halfway through its journey. According to reports, while the aircraft was in the air, information regarding increased tensions between Iran and Israel and the resulting insecurity of the airspace was received, prompting the pilot to decide to turn the plane back for safety reasons.
The flight was already on its scheduled route, but due to the rising military confrontation and the threat of missile attacks in Gulf countries, air routes have become extremely dangerous. IndiGo Airlines has clarified that the safety of passengers and crew is their topmost priority, and therefore, no risks could be taken. Upon returning to Delhi, the company expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to the passengers and arranged hotel accommodations and meals for the affected travelers.
The incident led to an atmosphere of anxiety and distress among passengers at the airport. Many passengers shared that returning from halfway has affected their urgent work and subsequent connecting flights.
