Unity of Sikh Truckers & Students Behind Gurudwara Sahib Mildura

In Mildura, the community of Sikh people has grown significantly over the last few years. In 2009, just a few sikh families were residing in Mildura but now have expanded to a whole community.

Due to this growing community in Mildura, the need for a dedicated place arose, leading to the foundation of Mildura Gurdwara.

Very well, strategically built at the National Highway 20 (NH20), opposite the airport, the gurdwara is not only for the Sikh community but also an essential resting place or point for passing travelers.Ā Ā

The vision of Gurudwara Sahib Mildura

In 2009, the community of Sikh people was limited to 10-15 families in Mildura. With time and due to student migration, the community has grown to more than 150 families.

Witnessing this growth, the Sikh community from Australia and New Zealand, decided to purchase a 15-acre land in 2015 at NH20 for the sole purpose of constructing a dedicated place for the Sikh community - Gurudwara Sahib Mildura.

Beyond the spiritual reason, the Gurudwara Sahib Mildura often serves as a cultural hub for the community. Every Saturday, meditation sessions with Naam Jap - recitation of Sukhmani Sahib are held. This practice keeps the young students in Australia well-connected with their roots.

The place also has a dedicated association known as Mildura Sikh Temple Association to ensure that good deeds are performed seamlessly. Many Sikh families visit the Gurudwara making it a tradition to deepen the connection with the culture.

Community Langar Seva

Langar is the practice in the Sikh community of preparing and serving free meals to people from every community without any differences. The same tradition is being followed with full dedication at Gurudwara Sahib Mildura.

Many Sikh truckers & students visit the Gurdwara for Langar prepared by community members. Not only Sikh truck drivers but also other passengers traveling on national highways stop to pay their respects through prayers and rest for a while at the place.

Conclusion

The Mildura Gurdwara is an excellent example of teachings in the Sikh community of unity and dedication to doing good for others. From a necessity of a dedicated place for Sikh people, the gurudwara is now a learning example for thousands of others.

According to an Australian Punjabi news channel, the contribution of Sikh Truckers & Students, and other community members is widely known in Australia.Ā
