ਅਕਾਲੀ ਫੂਲਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ 1761 ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਜੱਟ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਸਰਦਾਰ ਈਸ਼ਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਫੂਲਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ, ਜੋ ਕਿ ਅਜੇ ਛੋਟੇ ਸਨ, ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਰਾ ਬਾਬਾ ਸੰਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀ ਦੇਖ-ਭਾਲ ਮਹੰਤ ਬਲਰਾਮ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਾਤਾ ਦੀ ਸਲਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਬਾਬਾ ਨੈਣਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀ ਸਿਖਲਾਈ ਅਧੀਨ ਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਖਾਲਸਾ ਸ਼ਹੀਦਾਂ ਮਿਸਲ ਦੇ ਸੰਤ ਸਿਪਾਹੀ ਅਤੇ 19ਵੀਂ ਸਦੀ ਦੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੁੱਢਾ ਦਲ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀ ਸਨ। ਉਹ ਸਿੱਖ ਖਾਲਸਾ ਫੌਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਸੀਨੀਅਰ ਜਨਰਲ ਅਤੇ ਫੌਜ ਦੇ ਅਨਿਯਮਿਤ ਨਿਹੰਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਮਾਂਡਰ ਵੀ ਸਨ।
