Emergency services have responded after two vehicles were struck by a train 45 kilometres south-east of Melbourne’s CBD this morning.

The vehicles were left on the train track after a stopped car was rear-ended by a second vehicle shortly after 7am on Brunt Road, Officer.

Both occupants exited the vehicles to exchange details when the boom gates came down because of an approaching train.

They were able to jump to safety, however both cars were struck by the train.

One vehicle was pushed into the boom gates before ending up on the opposite side of the intersection, while the other was pushed about 150m before it was lodged beneath the train.

No one was injured in the collision, although two passengers from the first car were taken to hospital for shock.

Trains are currently stopped in the area and motorists are advised to expect delays.
