A woman cab driver running a gang of robbers and accused of carjacking and kidnapping a Kharar-based resident was arrested along with her two accomplices by Jalandhar police on Monday.
Navdeep Kaur, alias Deep, had been running a cab in the Tricity. Her husband Gurwinder Singh, a resident of Talwandi Bhai village in Ferozepur, is already lodged in Burail Jail, Chandigarh, for his involvement in six bank robbery cases, police said.
Jalandhar commissioner of police Parveen Sinha said Navdeep was running the gang and her two accomplices are Anil Kumar Sonu, a resident of Moga, and Gurpreet Singh, alias Gopi, of Lambra village near Jalandhar. He said a Maruti Brezza car looted at gunpoint from Mohali was recovered, while they were investigating about another Brezza vehicle used in the robbery. Cops also recovered 350 grams of drug powder, a revolver, and pistol along with bullets were recovered from them. Mohali SP Varun Sharma said, “We will get them on production warrant from Jalandhar.”
Jalandhar police said the accused were planning to get gangster Deepak Kumar, alias Binny Gujjar, freed from Ludhiana jail. From her mobile phone, cops recovered video clips in which she was firing from a weapon, apparently to train herself. On August 18 night, Inderjit Singh, a clerk, was allegedly kidnapped by three men and a woman at gunpoint from Kharar. The clerk had alleged the kidnappers withdrew around Rs 40,000 from his accounts through ATM and stole his Breeza car.
