A Melbourne family who were inside when a crane collapsed onto their house have said it was the scariest thing that’s ever happened.

The crane, operated by Tarrant, was carrying components of a pre-made home and was set to be a single storey house in Yarraville.

Three people were inside the neighbouring home at the time – Anna Pace, her son Fred, 17, and nephew Daniel Pantalleresco, 19.

Daniel was watching TV with his cousin when the crane toppled over – bringing part of the pre-built home into their living room.

The house started shaking and we looked over and the side of the house caved in and everything was flying everywhere he said.

We just screamed and we ran out.

Police say the crane collapsed at the Schild Street property, falling on the unoccupied neighbouring house about 1pm, causing major structural damage.

I thought they were all dead said Teresa Deluca, whose sister was inside the home at the time.

Two men working on the construction site received minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

The Metropolitan Fire Brigade have confirmed that three trucks were called to a property at Schilds Street.

An MFB spokesperson said the crane “was in the wrong position” and during the process of turning it around to the right position “something happened and that’s why the crane has ended up as it did”.

Firefighters and emergency responders are at the scene working to resurrect the crane.
