A man is on the run after stealing a luxury watch worth more than $100,000 during a Melbourne CBD jewellery store robbery.

Police said the man, who was wearing a woman’s wig and black rubber gloves, walked into the Franck Muller boutique on Collins Street about 10.40am on February 5 and threatened staff with a syringe.

He then smashed a glass display cabinet with a weapon, before he ran out with the watch and fled on a bicycle.

The face of the designer rose-coloured watch is covered in diamonds.

Detective Senior Constable Lewis Vincent said staff were not physically harmed during the incident.

“They haven’t been assaulted during it, however as you can imagine they are quite shaken up,” he said.

The man’s bicep tattoo could help identify him.

“It was a very brazen attack to commit an offence like this right in the middle of the day.”

Officers are appealing for witnesses to the crime and have released images of a man, who has a distinctive tattoo on his left bicep and right leg.

Anyone who recognises him is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
