A former contestant on The Block has been refused bail after she was charged with allegedly holding her Tinder date against his will at a home in Brisbane.

Suzi Taylor, who appeared on the 2015 series of the show, sat in court with her back to the media, wearing prison greens and no shoes, after she was alleged to have invited the 33-year-old to a home at New Farm just after midnight on Wednesday.

Police allege Taylor, 49, then demanded money from the man, and when he didn’t hand any over, another man entered the room and assaulted him.

The pair allegedly held the man against his will and Taylor also assaulted him.

Police said the pair then forced Taylor’s date to undertake an online transaction before stealing his bank card and withdrawing cash.

Taylor and her alleged accomplice, 22-year-old Ali Ebrahimi, have been charged with extortion, deprivation of liberty and assault, as well as possessing dangerous drugs.

Magistrate John McGrath said there was a risk of her re-offending after she appeared in his court on Friday charged with extortion, deprivation of liberty and assault.

In applying for bail, Taylor’s solicitor said Ebrahimi was the principal offender.

But Mr McGrath said that Taylor was accused of violence, even if Ebrahimi was the “predominant inflictor”.

Mr McGrath said Taylor had kicked the man’s body and punched him several times in the face for a minute, according to a police statement.

Taylor won $349,000 with her friend Yvonne Cosier in season 11 of The Block.
